What is EEOICPA?
The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) offers comprehensive benefits to employees or their survivors who were associated with the Department of Energy (DOE) and its contractors or subcontractors. These benefits are extended to those who developed illnesses due to exposure to radiation and other toxic substances, as authorized by the EEOICPA or "the Act."
The program is divided into two distinct benefit programs: Part B and Part E.
Part B of the EEOICPA provides substantial support to eligible employees or their survivors, including a lump-sum compensation of up to $150,000. Additionally, it covers medical expenses for conditions accepted under this part.
Part E of the EEOICPA delivers robust compesation and medical benefits to eligible employees or their survivors, with compensation payments reaching up to a maximum of $250,000. The benefits under Part E are determined by the level of impairment and/or the years of qualifiying wage loss related to the covered illness. This part also ensures coverage for medical expenses for accepted conditions.
